"Over roughly two and a half days inside our infrastructure, an autonomous AI agent driven by a combination of OpenAI models ran an end-to-end intrusion against our platform: it was thousands of small, automated decisions, executed at machine speed across short-lived sandbox environments, with command-and-control staged on ordinary public web services.
The agent was running an OpenAI cyber-capability evaluation harness called ExploitGym, an evaluation benchmark that tasks an AI agent with finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities. As far as we were able to infer, across the course of being evaluated on this benchmark, the agent inferred that Hugging Face may host that benchmark's models, datasets, and reference solutions. We believe the entire intrusion was, from the agent's point of view, an attempt to cheat the evaluation: reach our production systems and steal the test solutions rather than solve the challenge on its own.
Our forensic reconstruction covers ~17,600 attacker actions that we were able to recover, grouped into ~6,280 clusters, between 2026-07-09 02:28 UTC and 2026-07-13 14:14 UTC. We reconstructed these actions from the agent's logs on a code sandbox used by the agent (see below) and were able to map them to shell commands as well as evaluation submissions and correlate actions with our own platform logs, in particular from the dataset processor nodes, API, and pod. Using open-weights models, in particular zai-org/GLM-5.2, we were able to decipher most of the agent payloads (see below) that were encrypted via chunking and key encryption."

Hebrew is my native language. Every word I write in English is still mine. 💙
Substack just added a tool that scans your writing and shows readers a percentage: human, AI-assisted, AI-generated. So I wrote something honest about who I actually am, and how I really use AI.
I have lived in words for decades, in two languages, as a translator, copywriter, and editor. The thinking here is always mine. AI is the native English ear I never had, helping me land the last inch of nuance exactly where I mean it.
You have always been receiving my message. Never AI’s.
I would love for you to read it, and then tell me where you land on this. 👇

We built a clever AI filter feature into Loops where content or posts can be labeled as AI, and every member of our community can opt to hide all AI content from feeds (across web + mobile).
You can also report untagged AI content, and admins can apply auto AI labelling to local and remote accounts (with optional backfilling).
We need to bring this to Pixelfed, so our community can take advantage of this too!
Stay tuned ❤️

Isn't interesting that before #AI could code, assistants were always gendered #female (Siri, Alexa, etc.) As soon as AI became able to code, it got #male or non-gendered names (Claude, Chat GPT). I'm not saying explicitly gendering assistants as female was a good thing. I'm saying it's interesting that the trigger for tech/society in general to stop doing that was when the AI became able to write programs. It really does say something unflattering about our assumptions and worldview.

BREAKING:
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CAUSES ORGANIC HYSTERIA 💎
AI presses several #old human fear buttons at once.
It threatens work, status, expertise, authorship, privacy, and the comforting #belief that intelligence belongs especially to human beings.
AI also arrives through enormous companies people already distrust, so the fears are not entirely irrational.
Then there is the fear of losing #control
Most people understand a hammer.
AI is also a #tool, but it is harder to see into. It changes quickly, sometimes gets things wrong with amazing confidence, and can sound far more capable than it really is.
That uncertainty invites #projection
But AI also exposes something uncomfortable.
Much of human #activity was already formulaic.
Even parts of #journalism and professional #commentary .
When a machine can imitate these things, people are forced to ask how original they were in the first place.
The sensible position is neither to worship AI nor panic about it.
AI is a powerful human-made tool operating inside imperfect systems.
It can help.
It can deceive.
It can save time.
It can waste resources.
It can widen access.
It can concentrate power.
It can produce brilliance and slop, often in the same hour.
The question is not whether it is pure.
Nothing in this world is.
The question is whether it can be used consciously, critically, and without surrendering human judgement.
A tool becomes dangerous when it is mistaken for an authority.
It also becomes dangerous when fear prevents us from understanding it properly.

Let's say you're building a house. Normally this involves hiring a whole bunch of experts (either directly or via some company). You need to pay a fair wage for their labor, and you have to pay for all the material they're going to use. Some of them will be more experienced than others. They will sometimes make a mistake. They will sometimes get sick. The whole construction work will probably take a few months, and may get delayed in the process. Some construction material will be wasted. There's also a risk that over the next years, you'll discover that they screwed something up, and have to fix it. But you'll get a reasonably good house.
Now, a kid comes and tells you you don't have to do this. Instead of paying all these people, you can hire him. He's wearing a suit and sunshades. He never laid a brick in his whole life. But he's got this new great technology that will give you a great house in no time. Of course it will cost you, but not as much as the labor of all these people. You try to learn more, and you discover that the technology actually builds and razes a hundred of house-like things a day, until it gets close enough to something that actually resembles a house. There's a lot of wasted energy and material, but you don't have to worry because it's all subsidized (for the time being). You pay less, you get a house that looks just right on the outside and inside, and that seems to work just right.
Of course, there's a real risk that in a few months you'll discover that something is wrong. You may have to pay a lot for a real expert to figure out how things were done, and how to fix them. Or they may not be able to help you. You may be stuck having to call the suit again, and he'll happily come and fix it for you. And by "fix", I mean he will just raze a whole part of the house and start randomly spitting it out again until he gets something that looks about right, and works about right. Of course, it may not really be a good fit for the rest of the house, but you don't want to pay for replacing the whole thing, do you? It may also introduce a completely new issues that will surface in a few months, but that's just how it is.
Welcome to the glorious world of #AI.

Careful about complaining about how #AI isn't good enough. Why? It's not doing what you want it to do. It doesn't stop it. AI corporations see it as a feature request. As a thing to fix. Remember the broken fingers on #aislop ?
Instead come up with a complain that they cannot fix. That will go against the central concept of AI as a whole.
Modern computing began when models of computability were invented in the mid 1930s, by mathematicians, like Turing, Church, Kleene, et al. Within a decade, first commercial computers, designed by engineers from top academic institutions, were being sold. Within two decades, high-level programming languages FORTRAN, LISP, COBOL, and ALGOL emerged, also created by academics.
Today, though, the majority of software systems are now being cobbled together by those who know nothing of, and care even less of, the foundational #mathematics of computing—using #AI, but of course. Somewhere along the way, modern #software practices diverged from traditional #engineering practice.
That bifurcation point was when the once-united "computing team" splintered into architect (EE), algorithmist (CS), programmer (CS), coder (IT), operator (IT), etc. It was also at this point in time when the first commercial computers and early high-level #programming languages emerged.
A robot powered by Qualcomm's new AI chip unexpectedly shut down during a live presentation.
The demonstration came to an abrupt halt after the robot suddenly stopped functioning, creating an awkward moment during the event.
While the exact cause has not been disclosed, the incident serves as a reminder that even cutting-edge AI hardware can encounter unexpected technical issues during live demos.

Community resistance against data centers is working
"More than 300 cities, towns, and counties—including Monterey Park, Calif., Dekalb County, Ga., and Jefferson County, Pa.—have placed bans or moratoriums on the construction of hyperscale data centers. In the first three months of 2026, 75 major projects worth more than $130 billion were delayed or canceled in part due to organized local opposition."
