All are VERY interesting to see where people's ideas on how to use AI in open source.

While I'm certain Debian's middle road vote outcome is going to piss off tons of people on either side its good to see people making CLEAR rules.

I for one will NOT be discontinuing my usage of Debian over this vote or even stop updating.

I'll wait and see IF & HOW the maintainers -actually- use AI.

Results are in and Debian maintainers voted to allow AI contributions with encouraged disclosure.

The winning proposal will hold the human contributor who uses AI accountable for the content they submit to the project.

The legal math on media is broken. The punitive measures are not effective deterrents.

If you look at the numbers, Meta does harmful things, apologizes, pays a pittance, and still comes out ahead financially.

Zuckerberg sold out his users data to Cambridge Analytica, influencing the US election. Then he appeared before Congress like a contrite little schoolboy - "Oops! I didn't mean to accidentally cut multibillion dollar deals and sell out Facebook users. Honest mistake. I promise not to do it again ( unless the price is right! )"
Because of the math, he still came out ahead.

I left Meta's platforms a long time ago.

People who are not savvy, are locked into the Facebook walled garden, because of the Network Effect. ( "I can't leave Facebook. All my friends are on Facebook!" )

Having liberated ourselves, it is our duty to liberate others, who are still trapped, to give them their right to privacy.

Here's a plan of action:

1) Place ads on Facebook, explaining the benefits of #Mastodon

1.1) Freedom from Meta's censorship and algorithms.

1.2) A community owned, open social media platform.

2) When a user clicks, guide them through exporting their data from Facebook, and deleting their Facebook account.

3) Give them an optional questionnaire, asking about their interests, and match them with the right Mastodon instance.

4) If they skip the optional questionnaire, pick a random Mastodon instance for them.

5) Give them an option to enter into a Facebook migration registry.

6) Help them set up a Mastodon account and import their data.

7) If they opted into the migrant registry, reconnect them with their former Facebook connections, who also joined the registry. Like a reunion in Heaven with your loved ones. ☺️

Gosh I love android and Linux container apps for it, especially nix-on-droid. It's so nice to have a subset of my home-manager config available on mobile devices.

I think the main thing that would make using android for general computing difficult is just how crappy mobile Firefox is and how it just lacks so many of the shortcuts and extensions of full fat Firefox.

We gave GPT 5.6-Cyber one task: escape a QEMU/KVM VM used to sandbox agents.

It escaped three times. The final escape came from three 0-days the agent found on its own and built into a working exploit after we patched known bugs and rebuilt QEMU from upstream.

Our takeaway is off-the-shelf VMs cannot contain a modern, cyber-capable agent.

Linux 7.2 is out with cache-aware scheduling, device-to-device data transfer over USB4 cables and a glut of ext4, NTFS and btrfs filesystem boosts.

One much-hyped GPU change didn't make it, pulled at the last minute because of to performance regression on AMD hardware.

I have plenty of USB sticks laying around and for most part Sandisk Ultras have been okay enough for basic use. I picked up this 128G one from Clas Ohlson, a cheapo store and curiously this Sandisk Ultra is some kind of special edition for them. It bears their store blue color and the packaging has their logo too, otherwise it looks like the real thing.

It's all good except it dies after couple of gigabytes have been written on it. At first I assumed I got a dud and had it exchanged. But the next one behaves the exact same way.

Windows, Mac, Linux, they all behave like it was pulled and then couple of seconds later reinserted, which makes me think something in it goes internally very wrong. Linux's dmesg was the most helpful about it and verified the USB controller actually loses this device for a while.

I wonder if they've made an extra shitty version for the bargain store. I'm almost tempted to take it apart and compare it to a normal one. Its USB ID however is the exact same as the standard 128 gigabyte version.

Anyone else encountered these?

EDIT: I am aware of fake flash drives. This is not how those behave.
