Toho says it has no plans to actively introduce AI at this time.

The company acknowledged AI could improve efficiency but said using it in creative work remains "a very troubling and difficult issue."

It also noted ongoing legal concerns, adding:

"There are also various legal challenges that remain. Therefore, at this stage, we do not intend to take the lead and actively introduce AI."

“For most of history, surveillance ran into the same wall: payroll. A Soviet censor could open your letter. He could not open everyone’s letter, because steaming envelopes takes hands and there were never enough hands. The Stasi got closest, running files on a share of the East German population large enough that historians still argue the exact fraction, and it took warehouses of paper and a network of informants the size of an army to do it. The ceiling was human. Reading you cost a person a day, and a person’s day costs money.”

“What protected the ordinary person was the price of attention. You were boring, and boring was expensive to read.”

“AI removed the ceiling. A model reads every message at a cost rounding to zero, sorts them, flags the interesting ones, and never asks for a raise. The thing that made mass reading impossible was arithmetic, and the arithmetic just inverted. Two variables remain: who holds the data, and what they say when the state asks.”

Back in December of 2025, two days before Christmas, I was on vacation and doing some tech stuff that I had on my todo list. One of them was to start backing up my GoG game purchases (and also have a bigger drive to backup my OneDrive stuff, my music and my pictures.

I stopped by Best Buy and bought this external Seagate 24TB drive for $279.99 and thought to myself at the register while paying for it, "Damn, this is expensive."

I just looked and the same drive at Best Buy is now $709.99 (and that's the sale price after a $50 discount!). The sale price is a whopping 153.6% increase in just six months!

This is insane. Thanks techbros for making everything tech more expensive.

“META LEFT POTENTIALLY sensitive information collected from employee laptops accessible to anyone inside the company, according to an internal security notice seen by WIRED and three current employees familiar with the issue.

The data, which was collected as part of a divisive initiative to train artificial intelligence models, is believed to include keystrokes, mouseclicks, and content displayed on the computer screens of Meta’s US employees.

Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton initially confirmed to WIRED that the company is investigating the security issue. As this story was being published, he added that Meta is pausing the data collection program indefinitely. "We have carefully designed this program with privacy safeguards and while we have no indication at this time that any data was improperly accessed by Meta employees, we're pausing it while we investigate," Clayton says.

The security notice sent out Monday indicated that “employee data across 45,000 hive tables,” had been exposed. Those tables included employee activity such as “full prompts and transcriptions, private conversations, people and performance data,” according to documents viewed by WIRED.“
