@mdhughes well those came together in teaching you that other peoples' code is the work of the devil.

> A huge new group has come into computer-dom: the ignorant carpetbagger entrepreneurs from all over, full of this month's cliches about what's needed in software. And they all want something they can market in six months. It would be interesting if people went into agriculture with that attitude.

By the way, I think good code is just a disease. (clearly).

When you're building software aimed at a niche related to hype, the only thing you can do is hook people onto it. I mean, you're targeting the kind people who have an attention span of a fruit fly. Unless they're literally addicted to your software, they're going to forget it as soon as they notice the next shiny thing.

Using open source LLMs via Ollama [SENSITIVE CONTENT]

I've been trying to minimize my use of LLMs, but as a software engineer there are some tasks that are way easier, so it's hard to cut out completely.

So I've started paying for Ollama so I can use open source models (glm5.2, kimi-k2.7) in the cloud whenever possible.

Works with claude code and codex etc. too.

Using Ollama instead of claude or chatgpt means my data is private, my prompts aren't being used to train models, nor is my money.

LLM, negative, loss of trust [SENSITIVE CONTENT]

Some people think that usage costs rising will start undoing some of the harm caused by the hype. I don't think that's really going to help that much.

I'm not even talking about all the projects that were ensloppified and enshittified already. I'm not talking about all the technical debt. I'm not talking about all the forks that will have to be maintained forever. I'm not talking of all the projects that were abandoned because of burnout, or because they were only hype-oriented. And I'm not talking about all the corporations that will continue submitting slop.

I'm talking about the loss of trust. After all, we're not talking of people who realized they were wrong and are sorry. We're not talking of people realizing that it was wrong to forfeit ethics and morals in the name of "productivity". We're talking of people who are jumping ships because their previous approach turned out not to be profitable anymore. We're talking of gamblers who left the casino because they went broke. They aren't sorry that they gambled; they are sorry that they've lost. And they'd be happy to do it again at the nearest opportunity.

So, I'm sorry to say, but is never going to be the same again. A lot of people have shown their true colors, and I won't forget that.

We have the mind of Christ, but use the voice of a machine?

                      By Elizabeth Prata

I heard a really interesting thought on a Facebook short, of all places. It was a clip from an NPR interview with Dave Eggers, author, publisher, and Pulitzer finalist. The show was Wild Cards hosted by Rachel Martin. In it, Eggers said,

“This is the first time in history when a whole generation is being told or tempted to have a machine write for them to express themselves. But I say, you are one of one, unprecedented in in the history human evolution. There’s only one of you. So to give your voice to a machine to say, ‘Speak for me. I’m going to be silent.’ I’m going to tell a machine to express myself or to tell my narrative is such a crime against yourself.”

“It’s so dystopian, so beyond anything I could do in a dystopian novel, and I did a lot, and I never saw this coming. That an entire generation, too many of them, acquiescing to the silencing of their own voice in favor of a bland, unthinking machine to voice their souls.” –end Eggers quote

I think many of us who write or create never saw this coming. And since it’s still so new, we are grappling with the impact, fallout, and future of AI. His words made a lot of sense to me. For us Christians, though, it goes very much deeper than that.

Artificial intelligence technology has evolved faster than most Christians have been able to think about it. ~Samuel James, at Desiring God

Taking ‘evolution’ out of the equation, because that is a made-up untrue theory, and we all do realize we are uniquely made, yes, there is only one of me. Faceless evolution didn’t create me, the God of the universe did! And not only are we made purposely, intentionally, and with love by God, we are created in His image.

This notion should be on our minds every moment. It is a dignity afforded no other creature. It gives us the opportunity to speak His truth of the Gospel, reflect His character. Our voices are for the incredible privilege of sharing His Gospel and truths of the Bible. Why put a cold, metallic, faceless machine in that place of dignity?

Can we consider the possibility that swapping our own unique image-of-God voice for a voice of Artificial Intelligence is not only a crime against ourselves, but that giving away our God-given talents and creative abilities for the ease of a push-button machine may possibly be thought of as a crime against God? Should we be swapping our transformed mind of Christ at the cost of Jesus’ blood and death, for a man-made device? Just because it’s easier?

"There's a (false) story that's told about people who championed the early internet: that we were blithely certain that technology could only be a force for good, and negligently disinterested in the possibility that technology could control, extract and harm. That's demonstrably untrue: recall cyberpunk's dualism of "the street finds its own use for things" and "cyberpunk is a warning, not a suggestion."

More true is to say that early internet champions were alive to the importance of the internet, and therefore both excited about the possibilities of the internet to deliver a world of connection, idiosyncrasy, love and solidarity; and about the danger of the internet as a dystopian system of surveillance and manipulation:
                              (...)
History isn't finished. Long after the AI bubble pops, there will be local models and people vibe coding homemade software that respond directly to their needs. The stuff we make on our own computers, for ourselves, is deplatformed from its inception. It's part of the life we can build in technology's "shadowy corners" that we used to just call "technology." The fact that this stuff is utterly unsuited to be production code makes it inherently unmonetizable. It's how the street finds its own use for things:"

"We, the undersigned organizations and individuals, are deeply alarmed by the rapid militarization of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. AI systems embedded into military kill chains are accelerating the speed and scale of military assaults in a manner that creates significant new risks for accountability in conflict and risks facilitating violations of international criminal, human rights, and humanitarian law.

We therefore call for tech companies and states to halt the provision of AI systems for use in the military kill chain and to take all steps to ensure that other AI systems they provide do not cause or contribute to violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law (IHRL). This includes the use of AI decision-support systems, including target generation systems, remote biometric surveillance, and multimodal AI models, including large language models (LLMs). AI-accelerated warfare is rapidly becoming a means of rubber-stamping killing at speed and at scale, and currently no technical or procedural fixes can effectively prevent the lethal and devastating consequences that stem from the fundamental challenges it poses to international law."

The most interesting thing about the new SearchLeak attack on Microsoft 365 Copilot isn't any single bug. It's that none of the three pieces was dangerous on its own. Varonis combined a prompt injection via a URL parameter, an HTML rendering race condition, and a server-side request forgery in Bing's image search. Each of these is a common bug that security teams usually consider minor. But when you put them together with a Copilot that can access your mailbox, OneDrive, and SharePoint, they create a critical flaw. Microsoft has since patched this issue (CVE-2026-42824).

This is how the attack worked:

                                                            * The victim clicks a link. That's the whole interaction. They type nothing.

                                                            * The link instructs Copilot to search the mailbox, find sensitive information such as access codes, and place it into an image URL.

                                                            * Bing retrieves that image, which sends the stolen data to the attacker's server. Bing serves as the delivery service, allowing the attack to bypass the content security policy intended to stop it.

From the user's perspective, Copilot just pauses for a moment. There is no visible sign that any data has been taken.

In the past, we've spent years rating bugs by their severity on their own. An SSRF here, an HTML injection there—each seemed minor. But when an AI assistant can follow instructions from untrusted input and access your real data, those minor bugs become much more serious. Old types of vulnerabilities become important again in this new context.

If your company uses Copilot or any AI assistant that can access company data, it is important to ask your team how they are rating bugs that affect it. The way we judge what is low risk has changed.

But helped me quite a lot yesterday, and I don't know how to feel about that. By curiosity, I made it write code to create new useful commands for which will help me in my everyday work (for example `C-c m` now creates a PDF using `pdfmom -k` so I don't have to use a terminal at the same time when I use , `C-c t` adds `/|` before some punctuations signs following French typographic rules, …). These functions are very simple, most of you here could have written them by hand in less time than it took me to write the prompts, but I'm no developer, and don't have the time to become one, unfortunately. They work as intended (I can control that as, again, they're simple things), and I more or less understand them, as the described them. I even asked it questions to understand some parts of the code, and it answered (correctly it seems; I checked and as far as I can know, its answers seem legit), so I was able to modify them by hand to fine-tune them. One was wrong, but when I sent it the error message, it corrected it and explained the error to me.

It didn't feel like I was relinquishing brain power; in the contrary I learnt things. I could have done that by hand, and I would have learnt far more, but it would have taken months and I don't have months: a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I still think that LLMs are a problem for our societies, but even more so than I thought as it seems to be actually useful in some cases.

It is the innate human desire toward a goal, the goal being to reify a vision of that which only exists in your own mind, and it is the process of training your own mind and body to reify that vision through deliberate practice of technique, and it is the process of self-criticism as you look back on each attempt at realizing your vision and making a conscious effort to refine your technique and your practice so that your next attempt comes closer to realizing your vision. What you actually produce during this process is a side-effect, an artifact, of the artistic process, though we often speak of these artifacts as though it were the “art” itself.

So the requisites are (1) human desire, (2) a goal, (3) a vision in your imagination, (4) practice of technique, (5) refinement of technique.

Notice that so-called AI “art” meets precisely none of those requirements.

To do so, the company had to entirely disable them. Read more from NBC News:

He doesn't want his time to be wasted  He'll scream and shout if an LLM creates that time pit

It looks like you will have to stop using Linux. Since from your perspective anything that uses remotely an LLM is bad, you will have to stop, otherwise you will contribute to the environment being destroyed willingly and actively

In practice that is impossible. If you drive a modern car it has the Linux kernel. If you have a smart TV or more you're also using the tainted kernel. Even if you have a stick which also streams or a camera you will have a Linux kernel in many cases.

These LLMs are an infection of the planet's  code base

Since you're already using BSD a solution would be to cut using Linux on your computers drastically
