Using 30 months of panel data on 26,811 Chinese students in grades 7-12, we study how generative AI affects homework productivity and learning. The data combine monthly closed-book exams, high-school and college entrance exams, and homework scores and completion time across nine subjects. We exploit staggered AI adoption in a difference-in-differences design. AI adoption raises homework scores by 18% and reduces completion time by 30%, but lowers monthly exam scores by 20% within six months. High-stakes entrance-exam scores fall by 18 and 24%, with the full penalty emerging only after about two years. The losses are largest in social science subjects, followed by STEM and languages, and are especially large for junior students, high-achieving students, and boys. The learning losses are concentrated among roughly 80% of AI users whose behavior is consistent with homework outsourcing, as indicated by exceptionally short homework completion time coupled with high homework scores. AI users who maintain similar homework completion time as non-AI users experience small learning losses.

Yet we're still somehow subjected to this bizarre, performative pantomime in the press where we pretend the emperor is fully clothed and is capable of following through on elaborate protectionist policy that time and time again doesn't achieve any coherent goal outside of the enrichment of a bunch of preposterous assholes.
The reality remains that if the U.S. cared about consumer privacy, we'd pass a modern privacy law holding all companies (foreign and domestic) accountable. If we cared about national security and foreign influence, we'd dismantle the most corrupt administration in U.S. history. If we cared about social media propaganda, we'd properly fund journalism, boost media literacy, and embrace antitrust reform. If we cared about labor, we'd modernize and bolster unions.
The federal government no longer does these things because it's simply too corrupt to function. And the U.S. press, ostensibly tasked with conveying the truth to the electorate, is largely incapable of bluntly informing the public; in part because the truth might upset advertisers, event sponsors, ownership, and ad outreach."

Chrome really pisses me off. I have to use it to pay certain bills, but it's always aggressively trying to get me to make it my default browser. And it WON'T just let me say "No" and be done with it. The closest thing it allows me to say is that I'll set it as the default "later".
I really hate Google!
