Florida at sunrise. I love walking the beach this early, when it’s quiet and there’s just a soft breeze coming off the ocean. A thunderstorm was building in the distance that morning, catching the rising sun and filling the clouds with gold. Such a spectacular way to start the day.

    The grandfather clock just chimed nine times, and only now am I starting to type. I burned more than two hours this morning just sitting in my chair, drifting in and out of sleep. Some mornings, a nap right after getting out of bed feels like one of life’s underrated pleasures.

    I’ve told this story before, but it came back to me again. When I used to get up and head to work, what I really wanted most mornings was to sit still for a moment and close my eyes. But there was never time for that, so I’d power through the fog and stumble out to the car. On Friday nights, though, I’d sometimes set my alarm for the usual Saturday morning hour just so I could reach over, shut it off, and sink right back into sleep. It was a wonderful feeling. A few times I sabotaged my own plan by hitting the snooze button instead of the off button, and a few minutes later I’d have to start the whole ritual again. I know I’m not the only one who’s done that.

    I had one of those old brown plastic plug‑in alarm clock radios — the kind everyone seemed to own. I wish I could describe it better, but if I had a photo, you’d recognize it instantly. I used that thing for decades until it finally gave up. It wasn’t even that long ago, maybe five or six years. It quit before I did. After that, I bought one of those little atomic clocks that always keeps perfect time. The problem is I can’t hear the alarm on it, so I ended up using my phone instead. Who would’ve thought they’d be building tiny nuclear‑powered clocks? 😉😂

                                                    That brilliant red eye and enormous spoon-shaped bill give the roseate spoonbill a face that’s hard to forget. Add those soft pink feathers and you’ve got one of Florida’s most distinctive birds. Their pink color actually comes from pigments in the crustaceans and other foods they eat.

                                                                                                          I love standing beneath piers, and the wooden San Clemente Pier is one of my favorites. I’m not even sure why. Maybe it’s the sound of the waves, the repeating pilings, or the way the light filters through.

                                                                                                                                  Такие довольно часто там встречаются на крутых излучинах - глубокие, тёмные, с неторопливым обратным течением. А это место, откуда я снимал, довольно забавное. Тут и экстремальное рыбацкое место на трёхметровом обрыве - попробуй ещё вытяни наверх пойманную рыбу. И для совсем уж экстремалов - импровизированный трамплин в реку сигануть искупаться. Экстремальный тут не сам прыжок в реку, а выход на берег по упавшему на откос дереву вдалеке, до которого надо ещё доплыть против обратного хоть и слабенького, но всё таки течения. Ну или метров на триста ниже по течению, через заросли малины с крапивой, что в плавках выглядит как последний экзамен в клуб садомазо. Так что лучше уж по брёвнышку... 😁️

                                                                                                                                          Sitting out here in the meadow during the middle of the winter with a fresh snow covering the ground is very quite and peaceful. I could sit here for hours and just watch as the winter clouds blow through.
