Unfortunately, coincidence wrecks the credibility of the story.
Also, Bryan Cranston really turned up the volume of his performance to ungodly levels. He was almost comical in the movie.

The Contract, Da Vinci Code, Footloose, Into the Storm, Navy SealsC The Thomas Crown Affair
I bought Into the Storm used on Blu-ray at the local Goodwill for $6.20.
If you're going to make a movie in a found-footage format, then commit to it. A majority of Into the Storm is filmed as if it is on the characters' cameras, but the movie doesn't have confidence in this style and there are shots integrated into the movie from cameras that don't exist with characters -- this removes us from the documentary style that the movie is aiming for.
The special effects are actually decent. Into the Storm is reminicent of a made-for-cable movie that is trying to take advantage of hype around a tentpole movie being released into theaters. Into the Storm cribs from Twister and even throws in a flying cow as a callback. But, as the credits roll, it's clear this movie is not even close to being as good as Twister.
There are a lot of characters in this movie, none of them developed or memorable. The most memorable character? The Titus, which is the storm chasing tank. Other than that not one of the humans were memorable.
Into the Storm is a pretty bad movie, but the special effects are decent and that deserves two stars.
Rated 2 out of 10.

🎬 The full trailer drops tomorrow.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.Rutger Hauer is absolutely brilliant in Blade Runner.
The kids and I watched Blade Runner: The Final Cut on 4K UHD Blu-ray tonight for Family Movie Night. Both kids liked it to varying degrees. My daughter said the movie was too dark, but liked it and rated it 7 out of 10. My son said he didn't fully grasp all that was happening, but loved the production design, visuals and aesthetics. He rated it 6 out of 10. Both kids picked up on the theme of what it means to be human and the value of human life.
Blade Runner has always been a 10 out of 10 for me. The first time I saw this movie was in high school at a local theater in '92, it was the The Director's Cut of the film. Later, I watched the American theatrical release of the film and was not impressed.
The 4K UHD Blu-ray transfer is amazing and I am so glad that I have the disc. Streaming cannot compare to 4K UHD Blu-ray (or even regular Blu-ray).

Now we get Kyle Chandler as what looks to be a weary and tired (and sarcastic) Hal Jordan -- already a win. And we get Aaron Pierre as a Green Lantern in training, John Stewart. If you haven't see Rebel Ridge (2023), it's well worth a watch, Pierre is absolutely fantastic in the movie.

a few months ago while out thrifting i found an HD-DVD copy of A Scanner Darkly for a few bucks.
it instantly brought me back to 2007, when i was caught up in the excitement of the ability of watching HD films on my little home theatre. the blu-hddvd format wars were in full swing too, and i didn't want to buy a bum steer. so i sat on the sidelines the entire year.
what pushed me over the edge was A Scanner Darkly, which i had seen at a local indie theatre a few years earlier. i ended up buying an hd-dvd player just to watch it. i was blown away by how gorgeous it looked.
for the past few months i've collected a handful of hd-dvd movies with no real plan. i just like 'em. i didn't want to drop $100 on a used player, so i kept hunting thrift shops weekly for a deal. today i finally found one: a Toshiba HD-A2 player for $8.
A Scanner Darkly has to be one of the most beautifully animated (rotoscoped) and underrated films of the past 20 years. there's so much visual imagination that went into the world, that i always find something new each time i see it. i wish more people still talked about it. sadly, rotoscoping never really got a foothold outside of Linklater's films.

The staples of a James Bond movie were all in here. I quite enjoyed the movie and seeing what early Bond was like.
Sean Connery is awesome as James Bond. Actually, I will put it this way: Sean Connery is James Bond.
Goldfinger and his plan are great and memorable. Oddjob is a super memorable henchman. The opening song, titled after the movie, and sung by Shirley Bassey is fantastic and has stood the test of time.
Amazing how things were in the 60s cinema. Pussy Galore. Pussy Galore’s Flying Circus. And lines like: “Please entertain Mr. Bond for me Pussy.”
I watched this movie on Blu-ray, it is part of The James Bond Collection that I bought a couple of years ago that has all 24 Bond movies.

Only a fool would deny that... I'm getting tired of all this anti-AI bullshit. It's just a very efficient automation tool with specific affordances that can be well used or badly used. OK, there are still some hiccups in terms of efficiency but this is mostly an engineering problem together with an illiteracy problem from the part of some users.
"The Star Wars director, George Lucas, has added his voice to the growing chorus of film-makers receptive to the rising use of AI tools in moviemaking.
Speaking in an interview with A Rabbit’s Foot, Lucas, 82, said: “Artificial intelligence means it’s much easier for us to make movies.”
Resistance to the technology, he said, was “very much like sitting here saying: ‘Well, I believe the horse and the buggy is really where it’s at. These cars, they break down, they need gas, there’s all kinds of problems with them and pretty soon they’ll be making them into tanks, and then they’ll be killing people. It’s terrible.’”
Adoption of such tools, continued Lucas, was an inevitability. “There’s nothing you can do about it. That’s progress, it’s the future.”
Lucas is not the only director of a Star Wars film to have come out in favour of AI. The British film-maker Gareth Edwards, who made Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and most recently Jurassic World Rebirth said generative AI “is a fucking genius at helping you”."

What do you think of this new direction?
George Lucas believes AI is the future of filmmaking.
Speaking to A Rabbit’s Foot, Lucas said AI will make it much easier to create movies, adding:
“There’s nothing you can do about it. That’s progress, it’s the future.”
He compared AI to the arrival of the automobile, arguing that every major technological shift faces skepticism before becoming part of everyday life.

For people who were either not born yet or were too young, let me try to convey just how monumental of an impact Jurassic Park made in 1993.
It still remains the most successful and influential film in the franchise to this day. It’s currently the 12th highest grossing film of all time adjusted for inflation
It spawned tons of merchandise and video game adaptations. When it came out on VHS, it was played in school classrooms
The special effects in this movie set the bar for a decade
The recent passing of Sam Neill has prompted me to calculate the worldwide gross income for each “Jurassic” movie, adjusted for inflation. Here they are ranked from highest to lowest:
Jurassic Park (1993) - $2.5b
Jurassic World (2015) - $2.3b
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) - $1.3b
The Lost World (1997) - $1.2b

Another American film!
A friend gave me that DVD (Gattaca) many years ago, when I did not think about God.
Now that I know the truth, I see Gattaca is another movie telling a corrupt version of the true story. So many movies do this.
The life is in the blood.
One man gave his blood for us that we might live.
That man is, of course, Jesus. He is our perfect sacrifice.
The resonance in this story probably caused you to like it.

The first trailer for DIGGER has officially been released.
Cruise stars as the world's most powerful CEO, forced to confront, and stop, a global catastrophe of his own making.

Could this be one of the year's biggest films?
Assassination Games is a Van Damme family bonding vanity project as it stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, is executive produced by Jean-Claude Van Damme, co-produced by his daughter Bianca Van Damme, and features Jean-Claude Van Damme's son (Kris Van Damme) and daughter (Bianca Van Damme).
Bianca Van Damme shows much better acting chops than her father -- her character spends most of the movie in a coma.
Five minutes into Assassination Games there is a shot of a dog taking a piss on a sidewalk and that set the tone for the rest of the movie and its color grading. The movie is washed out and color graded yellow.
In 2011 when this movie was released Scott Adkins was 35 and JCVD was 50. The filmmakers had to go through some hoops to make it look like JCVD could hold his own against Adkiins.
For an action film this is heavy on talk and light on action which is disappointing because they underutilize the skills of Adkins.

I just got finished watching Project Hail Mary. It’s a very entertaining sci-fi movie that stars Ryan Gosling, who also produced the film.
This movie has it all: intriguing plot, humor, action, drama, and surprises.
It’s not super scientifically accurate but I’ll give that a pass since the movie is so good otherwise. I’d rate it a solid 9 out of 10. Highly recommended!
The good things: Gerard Butler and Marena Bacarrin are great and the visuals are very impressive throughout the movie.
The movie balances showing the raw desperation of humanity along with the goodness and hope of humanity. There is a long sequence in France that was particuarly emotional and good. It can all be attributed by the performance by William Abadie as a kind human and father doing his best.
Don't be friends with this family, they are bad luck -- they have all the good luck, those around them, not so much.
A lot of movie is illogical and a lot of things happen just because they needed to happen. It all robs the movie of credibility and breaks any emotional resonance.
The basis for this sequel takes some inspiration from Neil Stephenson's Seveneves about orbiting space objects entering the Earth's atmosphere.
Greenland (rated 6 out of 10) never needed a sequel, it got one and after watching the sequel, I still think it didn't need a sequel.
Greenland 2: Migration has its moments, but it lands with a thud by the time the credits roll. The movie is able to generate some scenes of real tension, though a lot of it is unearned -- and even more of it left me thinking what Gerard Butler's character said, "You've got to be kidding."
Rated 4 out of 10.
Streamed on HBO Max.
